Major positive changes to the Horizon Europe EIC 2026 Work Program
The European Innovation Council (EIC) has released the draft of the new 2026 work program.
The new program included over €1.5 billion to support development and marketing of innovative technologies – an increase of over 16% from the 2025 budget!
Here are the highlights of the key changes in the 2026 EIC program:
1. Introduction of a new scheme: EIC Advanced Innovation:
a. TRL 3-6 (PoC to Demo)
b. €300K grant 1st step (2026); followed by €2.5M grant 2nd step (2027), 100% financing
c. Deadline March 2026
d. Topics: Disruptive Physical AI, and Replace Animal use in Medical Product Testing
2. The EIC Accelerator is simplified, shortened, and has more deadlines:
a. Six Step-2 full-application deadlines instead of two (Jan, March, May, July, Sept, Nov)
b. Three Step-3 interview deadlines – one after every two Step-2 deadlines
c. Step-2 full application text to be reduced to 12 pages + workplan (from 50 pages)
d. Review process amended to increase chances at later stages
3. The EIC Pathfinder budget per project increased to €4.5M
4. Other schemes remain similar to 2025 – EIC Pathfinder, EIC Transition, STEP
