There are non-dilutive funding opportunities for any type of organization – from small startups to large corporations, to educational institutions. Some schemes require the organization to be located in a particular country or regions, while many are open to global companies.
Non-dilutive funding, or grants, are often aimed at highly innovative, often high-risk, often deep-tech technologies or solutions that have a positive impact on society in areas such as healthcare, energy, sustainability, climate, agriculture, safety and more.
In many cases, these schemes are searching for companies that require extensive funds to reach the market over a fairly long period of time, and who face significant risks in the process.
Grants can range from a few hundreds of thousands of Dollars/Euros to tens of Millions. However, for a single company, typical amounts range from $500K-$4M over a period of 1-4 years.
This varies from one scheme to the other. There are either no strings attached, or there are schemes which require return of the grant from future positive revenues in a form of royalties. Additionally, some grants fund only 50% of the amount needed, while others can cover 100% of the funds needed. In some cases, there may be requirements on the location of the IP of the company.
The application process for a grant from time of starting to work on the application and until you see the money “in the bank” can typically take anywhere from 6 to 12 months, and in some cases a bit longer.
